Alyn Wallace Tribute
Renowned night photographer Alyn Wallace was a speaker at the 2023 Night Photo Summit, and we certainly would have invited him to join us again. Unfortunately, along with so many others in the photography community, we were saddened to hear of his passing on March 28, 2024.
While Alyn will not be with us in person, he will most certainly be with us in spirit. With his family's permission, we are dedicating this page to his memory.
Night Sky Wonders
We invite you to watch Alyn's presentation from 2023.
About this Talk
The genre of landscape astrophotography is dominated by images of the Milky Way core, and whilst it may be the brightest and most colorful region, it’s such a small section of the entire Milky Way band. Limiting your photography to just the core means facing south over the summer months, but there are different sections of the Milky Way found in different areas of the sky all year round.
Not only that, but the Milky Way is just one of many night sky wonders awaiting your capture. Let’s not forget about the moon and planets, meteor showers, auroras, eclipses, occultations and conjunctions, red sprites and blue jets, lunar rainbows and halos, to name a few.
In this talk Alyn Wallace will teach how to locate and how to best capture all of these incredible objects and phenomena. You will become better attuned to the seasonal nature of the night sky so that you can shoot all year round in a myriad of different ways.
Photographing the Night Sky (Memorial Edition)
When Alyn's book was released in 2022, it was instantly considered a masterpiece tome of the niche. If you were a night photographer, and especially if you desired to become a night photographer, then you wanted to own Photographing the Night Sky.
At 576 pages, the book was clearly serious about its mission. It was renowned not only for the quality of its instruction, but also for the beauty of its images and the caliber of its production.
The book covers everything you need to know—equipment, settings, basic astronomy, multi-exposure procedures, what’s in the night sky, the best locations, processing techniques and more.
The book sold out in less than 2 years.
When Alyn passed away, he was deep into making revisions. His family picked up where he left off, and in November 2024 they published the second edition—dubbed the "memorial edition."
The revised and re-released book is now available in paperback and a limited number of hardcovers. In addition to the educational material, it also includes several pages dedicated to Alyn.
Copies of the new edition are available for purchase at alynwallacephotography.com.

2025 Night Sky Calendar
Alyn’s brother Rhys created the 2025 Night Sky Calendar to celebrate Alyn’s life whilst giving back to the astro community.
The calendar includes night and day photographs of Alyn in some of his favorite locations all over the world, bringing a very personal feel to what the Wallace family says will be the last in the line of calendars of Alyn’s work.
The month-by-month pages also include astronomical events such as moon dates, meteor showers, planet conjunctions, lunar eclipses, solar eclipses and more.
Only 1,500 calendars were printed. Orders may be placed at alynwallacephotography.com.
Farewell, Alyn
Our team extends our heartfelt gratitude to Alyn for his contributions to the astro-landscape photography community. His excellence as a photographer, educator, YouTuber, author and more was hard to match, and his honest, friendly approach was beneficial to all who sat under his learning tree.
We always admired his creativity. His photographs demonstrated a deep understanding of the craft and his education showed a sincere willingness to raise others up as they reached for the stars.
It’s easy to believe that forever is possible when standing under dark skies, observing the Milky Way and trillions of stars. We hope that Alyn is peaceful and at rest, and that he is spending time among the stars that moved him to such great lengths to make art.
Alyn, we will miss you. We cherish the time you spent with us and our small community of stargazers.
