Ambient Artificial: How to Preserve Detail and Capture Atmosphere in the City at Night
Most of the earliest night photographs were of city scenes, as night photography by natural light was pretty much impossible with 19th century materials. Today, most night photographers focus on the landscape by starlight or moonlight, but urban night photography offers a whole different world of challenges and possibilities.
In this informative presentation, Lance Keimig will discuss both the technical and aesthetic opportunities of working with ambient artificial light in urban environments at night. He’ll walk you through examples of several different scenarios utilizing exposure and processing techniques that reveal lots of detail when it’s called for, but that also leave mysteries and unanswered questions to draw the viewer in.
At the end of this talk you’ll be rewarded with a new appreciation of cloudy and rainy nights!
